Why Aftercare Determines the Final Result

Tattooing is an open wound procedure. The dermis has been punctured hundreds of thousands of times per session, depositing pigment beneath the epidermis. How well the skin heals directly determines colour vibrancy, line crispness, and long-term tattoo quality.

Poor aftercare causes blowout of healed lines, patchiness in colour, scabbing that pulls out pigment, and increased infection risk. Correct aftercare is the final stage of the artist's craft.

The First 24 Hours

Note: If your artist used a second-skin or hydrocolloid film (Dermalize, Saniderm), follow their specific removal instructions — typically 24–72 hours for the initial application.
